In 2008, Indiana overhauled how schools are funded: the state capped local property taxes and took over primary responsibility for school operating budgets. Recognizing that state funding wouldn't meet every community's expectations for its schools, the legislature created the school referendum: a way for local voters to decide for themselves whether to invest additional local dollars in their own districts.
Since then, communities across Indiana, including many of our neighbors in Hamilton County, have used referendums to fund the teachers, safety resources, and programs the state formula doesn't cover. Noblesville has been part of that story from nearly the beginning, approving operating referendums for the past 16 years.
But under Indiana law, that funding doesn't continue automatically — it expires unless voters renew it at the ballot box. Indiana law also prohibits the school district from campaigning for its own referendum. That job belongs to the community, or it doesn't get done. So we stepped up. We exist to make sure every voter in this district understands what's on the ballot, what it funds, and what it costs before they're standing in the voting booth.
Strong Schools Noblesville, the group behind Miller YES, is a volunteer committee of Noblesville parents, teachers, business owners, retirees, alumni, and neighbors who came together for one purpose: renewing our community's investment in Noblesville Schools on November 3, 2026.
We don't all vote the same way in other elections. Some of us are lifelong Republicans, some are lifelong Democrats, and plenty of us are somewhere in between. We don't agree on everything, but we agree on this: strong schools are the foundation of strong communities.
We believe in being straight with you. The ballot language is confusing — we'll translate it. The renewal has a real cost — we'll show you the math. You deserve facts, not spin, and if we ever get something wrong, we'll correct it publicly.
We're powered by volunteers and funded by local contributions — no national money, no outside playbook. Every dollar we raise and spend is publicly reported. Indiana law prohibits school districts from spending public dollars to advocate for a referendum, and we take that seriously. No district funds, staff time, or resources are using in this campaign.
